A finalist in the 2015 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition and the 2013 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, Zubin Edalji is an ambitious and versatile trumpet player, composer, and teacher. It’s a source of pride for Edalji that his trumpet-playing and concept bear some reflection of the mentorship he has received from some of the finest musicians in the world, including Chicago’s own Tito Carrillo as well as other masters like Brian Lynch, Laurie Frink, and Kenny Werner. Edalji has been honored to perform at iconic venues like New York’s Blue Note and Jazz Gallery and Chicago’s Jazz Showcase, Green Mill, Andy's, and Fulton Street Collective. He has also played on the stages of international festivals including the Siena Jazz Festival, the Matera Jazz Festival, the Elba Jazz Festival, and the Chicago Jazz Festival.

In 2023, Edalji released his debut album, Four Windows, which has also become the name of his working band. Loosely put, Four Windows is about things usually having multiple perspectives. “This concept keeps my imagination and creativity going,” Edalji says, “so I purposefully seek it out. Also, I am endlessly inspired by the quintet as a vehicle for expression, as a player and a composer. And when I have brilliant artists surrounding me in the band, I can enjoy the moment from any combination of four different perspectives, or windows.”

The musicians:

Zubin Edalji – trumpet
Matthew Muñeses – saxophone
Darwin Noguera – piano
Sam Peters – bass
Neil Hemphill - drums
