The Chicago windy city ramblers

The Chicago Windy City Ramblers, Inc. is a nonprofit brass band organization dedicated to the cultural development of the youth of Chicago. Both musically and culturally, the band links the musical legacy and festive spirit of the New Orleans brass band and second-line culture with the rich creative history of Chicago music, culture, and musicianship.

Trumpeter, composer, bandleader, and native Chicagoan Mario Abney fuses traditional and extended techniques in an inventive way, his uniquely personal vision for music endowing it with an infinite array of tonal colors. He is recognized for his ability to create pure musical dialogues and to hear music in a universally spiritual way. Although Abney relocated to New Orleans in 2008 to become part of the scene there (and ended up playing with Charmaine Neville, Ellis Marsalis, Delfpheo Marsalis, Irving Mayfield, and Bill Summers, among others), he is once again a regular feature on the stages of his beloved home town Chicago, playing regularly at Andy’s Jazz Club, Untitled Supper Club, The Salt Shed, and elsewhere.
