VICTOR GARCIA

Examiner.com’s Neil Tesser calls him “one of the most exciting young musicians.” Chicago Tribune’s Howard Reich says that he “stands out as an ebullient soloist offering a formidable technique and a radiantly polished tone.” JazzChicago.net’s Brad Walseth regards him as a “young lion trumpeter.”

He’s as versatile as he is creative. His trumpet talent heralds his international acclaim. He also sings, plays percussion, and his songwriting, arrangements and charts have led him to professorial positions at Roosevelt University, Loyola University and the University of Illinois in Chicago.

The lineup of greats he’s performed with speaks for itself: Aretha Franklin, Arturo Sandoval, Spoon, Monty Alexander, Wynton Marsalis, Victor Manuelle, Nicholas Payton, La India, the Temptations, Steve Turre, BeBe Winans, Tito Puente, Jr., Paquito d’Rivera, Randy Brecker, Branford Marsalis, and Dr. John. Victor has recorded on dozens of albums, three of them Grammy-nominated. He’s currently on tour with The Isley Brothers and released his debut album, The Grind/The Groove, in 2018.

Stu Mindeman

Introduced to the piano at four years of age, Stu Mindeman spent his formative years in Santiago, Chile, and Chicago, Illinois, and quickly realized that he wanted to pursue a life in music. Stu maintains a busy performance schedule throughout the world, both on stage, and behind the scenes, as a composer, arranger, and producer. Stu has performed and recorded with numerous world-class artists, including Branford Marsalis, Kurt Elling, Gloria Estefan, Ana Tijoux, Francesca Ancarola, Miguel Zenón, Antonio Sanchez, Kirk Whalum, Dave Weckl, James Genus, Tom Kennedy, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Howard Levy, Kendrick Scott, Juan Pastor, Marquis Hill, Makaya McCraven and many others. Stu has also been active in the world of theater, musically directing for Chicago's The Second City comedy troupe. Stu has released two original albums to critical acclaim: “In Your Waking Eyes: Poems by Langston Hughes” (2014), and “Woven Threads” (Sunnyside Records, 2018).

Jonathon Wenzel

Jonathon Wenzel is a drummer-percussionist who was born and raised in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. He began playing drums at church, while also participating in Chicago Children’s Choir as a vocalist and percussionist. In the midst of multiple international trips as a performing vocalist and percussionist with CCC, he auditioned at the University of Illinois at Chicago, majoring in Jazz Studies under master percussionist Ernie Adams. During his studies at UIC, he continued to expand his network beyond jazz throughout the Chicagoland area, performing professionally in a wide range of styles and contexts. It was during this time discovered a passion for Afro-Latin rhythms. The path in these styles has led to multiple international engagements, recordings, and performances with Chicago luminaries and visiting international artists, including Chuchito Valdes, Orbert Davis, Roy McGrath, and many others.

Freddy Quintero

Freddy Quintero is a bassist from Punto Fijo, Venezuela. Freddy started his journey in music at age twelve at El Sistema program in his hometown. Quintero moved to Chicago in 2015 and since then, he has volunteered at the El Sistema-inspired music program “The People's Music School”. Freddy has shared the stage with big name artists as well as ensembles of diverse genres such as drummers Dana Hall, Ernie Adams, percussionists Ruben Alvarez, Joaquin Pozo, saxophonists Pat Mallinger, Greg Ward, violinist James Sanders & Conjunto, composer and multi-instrumentalist Clarice Assad, Brazilian guitarist Luciano Antonio, CALJE (Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble), Chicago Latin Jazz Collective, Christian singers JoAnn Rosario, Julissa, Salsa artists Tony Vega, Luisito Carrion, Tito Puente Jr., Grammy-nominated band "Angel Melendez & 911 Orchestra", Grammy-nominated trumpeter and educator Victor Garcia, multi-Grammy nominated Cuban pianist Chuchito Valdes, Latin Grammy-winner Colombian singer 123 Andres, Grammy-winner trumpeter and composer Humberto Ramirez, just to name a few. Quintero has perform at several festivals and venues throughout the U.S. including the Chicago Cuban Festival, Lollapalooza, Chicago Jazz Festival, Chicago Latin Jazz Festival, Jazz in The Park Festival (Milwaukee, WI), Jazz at Five Festival (Madison, WI), Valparaiso University Jazz Festival (Valparaiso, IN), California WorldFest (Grass Valley, CA), Perdue University, DePaul University, United Center, Navy Pier, The Green Mill, The Jazz Showcase, The Jazz Kitchen (Indianapolis, IN), Yoshi’s Jazz Club (San Francisco, CA), An Die Musik (Baltimore), Nighttown (Cleveland), Dazzle (Denver, CO), Aragon Ballroom, House of Blues, and many more. Freddy Quintero is currently majoring in Music Education at Northeastern Illinois University.

Jose Montejano

Jose, a native of Chicago, Il is an experienced drummer & percussionist, versatile amongst many different genres of music. He holds a B.A in Music Business from Columbia College Chicago. With twenty five years of experience, he has performed with various artist on major productions such as Lollapalooza, Soundset, Coachella & Salsa festivals, with the likes of KRS-One, Rakim, Psalm One, BoneThugs&Harmony, Sean Price, Guitarra Azul, Victor Garcia, Sonora Dinamita, Mauro Mosquera, and many other acclaimed group’s & artist’s. Jose’s mentors and teacher’s throughout this lifespan of work consist of Vern Spevak (Spevak Percussion Concepts), Ndugu Chancelor-(Michael Jackson/DonnaSummer), Ruben Alvarez -(Chevere), and John Blackwell- (Prince/Chromium).
