Since their first time playing together in 2015, SYLVIE COURVOISIER AND MARY HALVORSON have felt an incredibly strong musical bond. Their duo presents adventurous and intricate music, featuring original compositions by both musicians. Their debut recording was described in Something Else as a “meeting of two of the brightest minds on the edgier side of jazz today,” and “astonishing, both in its fluency and ceaseless ingenuity."

Pianist and composer SYLVIE COURVOISIER has performed and recorded extensively—solo; in duo with Mark Feldman; and in trio with Kenny Wollesen and Drew Gress; as well as in or leading other ensembles. She has performed and recorded with John Zorn, Yusef Lateef, Erik Friedlander, Tim Berne, Nate Wooley, Susie Ibarra, Wadada Leo Smith, and the flamenco dancer Israel Galvan, among others.

Guitarist and composer MARY HALVORSON has been described as “a singular talent” (Lloyd Sachs, JazzTimes), ”NYC’s least-predictable improviser” (Howard Mandel, City Arts), “one of the most exciting and original guitarists in jazz—or otherwise” (Steve Dollar, Wall Street Journal), and “one of today’s most formidable bandleaders” (Francis Davis, Village Voice). In recent Downbeat Critics Polls, she has been celebrated as guitarist, rising star jazz artist, and rising star composer of the year.
