Saxophonist IRVIN PIERCE has played at Room 43, Chicago Jazz Festival, Trinity Church of Christ Jazz Festival, Taste of Chicago (alongside Nico Segal), Pitchfork (with Chance the Rapper), and others. He has also performed in Europe, as part of Ernest Dawkins Live the Spirit Residency, and at the Atlantique Jazz Fest and in Paris as part of the Third Coast Ensemble, forming a bridge between French and American jazz musicians. In addition, he has worked on a Mary J. Blige video, in performance with Solange Knowles, and as a hired musician and actor for the Empire television series.
Young vibraphone player JOEL ROSS has shared stages with greats like Herbie Hancock and Christian McBride, and is known not only for his technical skill and virtuosity, but also for the swinging way he moves audiences, taking them on a musical journey of discovery.
Bassist IVAN TAYLOR is a Juilliard grad who has played with the Illinois All-State Jazz Band and The Grammy Band, as well as with Chicago Jazz masters Von Freeman and Orbert Davis. He has had a strong impact on the New York scene, performing with the likes of Rashid Ali, Louis Hayes, Nicholas Payton, Curtis Fuller, Tia Fuller, Take 6, and Wynton Marsalis. He is a member of Mulgrew Miller's trio and sextet Wingspan touring internationally.
Commonly referred to as a "beat scientist," drummer, composer, and producer MAKAYA McCRAVEN melds jazz, hip-hop, rock, and global rhythmic traditions, drawing equally on established traditions from jazz-funk, post-bop, fusion, and left-field beat explorations. McCraven has also been a regular member of guitarist Bobby Broom’s trio, worked with pianist Greg Spero in a trio and later with his Spirit Fingers group, played with trumpeter and 21st century fusion soul pioneer Marquis Hill, and founded funky jazz-rock-hip-hop pioneers Cold Duck Complex while still in high school. He has headlined his own albums and tours in configurations ranging from trios to orchestras.
